A Typical Italian Wedding

Getting married in Italy has become very fashionable and there is a high demand from couples wishing to tie the knot in Italy. Beautiful settings and the Mediterranean climate make Italy a popular wedding destination and many couples in search of authentic destinations for their dream wedding in Italy often wonder how Italians do it!

So, what is a typical Italian wedding? We are asked.

Italy is a big country and each region has its own customs. Italian couples usually get married in churches, and this is because the majority of Italians are Catholic, however there are many beautiful Italian town halls available for civil ceremonies and on Our Italian Wedding Brochure you will be able to view some of the most beautiful town halls We Do Weddings by A&J has selected for our demanding couples.

There are also many beautiful private venues with a chapel, venues with beautiful gardens and venues with amazing views of the countryside, the Mediterranean Sea and of the Lakes where ceremonies can take place and these have now become very popular amongst wedding couples wishing to get married in Italy.

Flowers play a big part, and churches and wedding receptions are usually decorated with many floral arrangements.

Italian weddings are all about food, wine and fun. Italians are very fussy about food and Italian wedding menus usually include more than 7 courses, plenty of wine, a three layers traditional wedding cake, liquors and coffee.

Some couples hire traditional band which plays local music and wear traditional clothes, other couples prefer an American band , and in the past 10 years Latin music has become very popular at Italian Weddings; guests love to dance and it is also a great way to lively up the atmosphere. A DJ or an International band is usually booked for after the meal.

It is also traditional to provide guests with favors and almond confectionary which are handed to the guests at the end of the event as a Thank you gift.

A typical Italian wedding would have hundred of guests attending the ceremony and reception and this is why most Italians hold their receptions at large restaurants or modern hotels able to cater for hundred of guests.

Everyone has its own idea of a typical Italian wedding. How would you envisage your wedding in Italy?

  1. Weddings are considered to be an especially big treaty in Italy. Thus there will be a grand party of the union of the bride and the groom as well as the two families and their friends. The Italian wedding custom usually comes with a Nuptial Mass, following feasting, drinking and dancing. That could be truly enjoyable and thrilling.
